| Shoes after Big Toe Fusion I am 11 weeks out of surgery for big toe fusion after an unsuccessful bunionectomy. I am currently in a CAM walker and the orthopedic surgeon said I can wean myself out of the boot and into a sneaker. Any shoe recommendations anyone? DebbieG, what is your take on this? Thank you. |

I have a pair of black tie on Merrells that are very comfy. I also just bought a new pair of Asics running shoes to replace my old ones and my feet like them. How is your foot now? | Re: Shoes after Big Toe Fusion I had a big toe fusion a little over three weeks, I'm in a boot and was wondering how long it would be before I can walk on both feet. I'm already bored out of my mind not being able to drive or walk on two feet. Thanks for any information you can give me. |

Looking back, that time where I was bored and frustrated about having no freedom seems like such a short blip in time. I did not have a boot, and could heel weight bear right away, as long as the pain allowed. I was able to use my whole foot at about six weeks. I could get my foot into a tie on shoe that had the laces as loose as possible and no insole around the six week mark. It is all a process, and now looking back is well worth the trouble. I can now walk without pain, and can wear sensible shoes easily. I recently got new orthotics and that will help my non-surgical foot in particular.....plantar fasciitis. I just had my foot x-rayed today to see how it is doing. It looked different to my eyes......as if it is fusing. Here's hoping. I have next to no pain now and I love it. There is some tenderness still, and I understand that is to be expected for up to a year. Be patient. This is all worth the trouble. Check out all the threads on big toe fusion. There has been a lot of discussion. It can be helpful to read other people's experiences. | Re: Shoes after Big Toe Fusion Been wearing these Reebok trainers as opposed to the Merrell's with no backs. Still feels kinda "uncomfortable" and weird. Probably going to take a while before I feel "normal." Hope this is just the progression of the recovery period and nothing is wrong! |
